Richard Avedon
Richard Avedon was born on May 15, 1923. Both of his parents worked in the fashion world which engendered Richard to also become interested in fashion. Not only was he interested in the actual clothes but he was also very interested in photographing the pieces of clothing that was sold at his father's clothing shop. At the age of 12 Alvedon joined a camera club called the YMHA. Avedon attended DeWitt Clinton High School in New York City and became a renown poet with his best friend, James Baldwin. Later, Richard then joined the United States Merchant Marine during world war II. His job was taking identification profile pictures of sailors. He did this for two years, from 1942-1944. After he left the Marine he joined the School for Social Research in New York City to study photography. In 1955 Avedon made fashion and photography history when he staged a photo shoot at a circus. Along with Fashion, Richard Avedon was known for his black and white portraiture. To this day, Richard Avedon's pictures are an inspiration to all.
